Model 100 KHz (CW) exposure sickled human red blood cells and analysis of and morphological changes

Sickled human erythrocytes were exposed to 100 KHz RF (PW) at increasing field strengths. At a threshold of 3.5 kV/cm2, cells reverted to a spherical shape after a few minutes. The thresholds for spherical conversion were different for other frequencies between 10 kHz and 1 MHz. Over-exposure resulted in cell hemolysis. The authors postulated that the desickling was the result of interaction with either the membrane or the hemoglobin S molecules
