Model 27 MHz, 2.45, 3 GHz (CW, PW) exposure to bacteria and analysis of growth and mutation

Salmonella typhimerium and E. coli strains were exposed to 27.12 MHz (CW), 2.45 GHz (CW), and 3.07 GHz (PW) for 1-7 hours at SARs of 35-100 W/kg with temperature maintained at 37.0 C. No effect on forward mutation, backmutation, or prophage induction was observed. A minor effect on growth stimulation was observed in some situations as well as a weak prophage inducing capacity that the authors did not feel was biologically significant, and attempted to extrapolate in terms of occupational exposure in Sweden to an estimate of less than 1 case of cancer or heritable damage per year if it was in fact a real effect. A second paper discussed the statistical problem of establishing the absence of a detrimental effect of MW exposure.
