Model 2450 MHz (CW) exposure and a case study of a man with acute myelogenous leukemia
Details

Case study of a patient (46 yr old man) with acute myelogenous leukemia that had been occupationally exposed since 1966 during the maintenance of high power (up to 3000 W) microwave generators and ovens. During testing of the units following repair, the patient was exposed for ~ 5 min/day, 6 days/week (no quantitative exposure estimate given). Other cases of AML associated with exposure to intense microwave radiation have not been reported in the literature, although the authors note that jobs involving exposure to high-level microwaves are rare.

In a letter to the editor, Jauchem criticized the study for lack of exposure characterization and its reference to other reports with questionable findings (Br J Haematol (1990) 76:312-314). In a reply, Archimbaud defends his study (Br J Haematol (1990) 76:313).
