Model 900, 1800 MHz (GSM) exposure to the hip of mobile phone users (when on a belt clip) and analysis of bone mineralization in the iliac wing

Male volunteers (n = 150) were evaluated for correlations between the side on the belt that they carried their mobile phone and the mineral density in the iliac wing bone. The authors report on average the men carried their mobile phones on their belt for 14.7 hours/day over 6.2 years. Bone density (as compared to the non-exposed iliac wing was decreased, but not to a statistically significant extent. The authors, however, suggest mobile phone RF exposure may be a factor in bone demineralization. In a related study, the authors exposed rats (n = 30) to 1800 MHz (GSM) using a mobile phone for 30 minutes/day, 5 days/wk, for 4 weeks. The authors report no significant effects on lumbar or femur bone mineral density.
