Model 1800 MHz (GSM) exposure to isolated human dendritic cells and analysis of cell surface receptor expression

Human dedritic cells were isolated and exposed to 1800 MHz (GSM) at 4 W/kg for 0, 1, 12, or 24 hrs and analyzed for DC cell surface markers using flow cytometry. The authors report all exposure times resulted in decreased surface expression of MHC class II (HLA-DR) and co-stimulatory molecules CD80, CD86, and CD40, while the levels of CD11c stayed the same as controls. There was also no change in secreted levels of cytokines IL-12/p70 and TNF-alpha. The authors suggest such exposures may downregulate the ability of dendritic cells to present antigen and otherwise stimulate the acquired immune response.
