ID Number 200
Study Type In Vitro
Model 1-200 kHz, 50, 150 MHz (CW) to Jurkat T-cells and analysis of signaling
Details

Human leukemic T-lymphocytes (cancer cell line Jurkat) were exposed to alternating EMF with different frequencies and amplitudes, applied by electrodes (1 - 200 kHz, 50 MHz and 150 MHz; electrical field strength 100 V/m) for 500 s (LF) or 300 s (RF). The intracellular free calcium concentration [Ca2+]i (detected by means of UV light microscopy with the fluorescent dye fura-2) and the redox state of the cells were measured. StudentĀ“s t-test indicates no significant changes of the [Ca2+]i due to the field exposure. Significant changes of the frequency distribution of reacting cells only detected by special statistical tests at 20 kHz, 50 kHz, 100 kHz and 50 MHz. UV radiation emitted by the UV lamp of the experimental setup influences [Ca2+]i and was used to increase sensitivity of the exposure in the cells. No effects were reported.
