Model 1900 MHz (DECT) exposure to bees and analysis of behavior

Bees (Apis mellifera) were exposed to 1900 MHz (DECT) RF by placing a mobile phone handset in standby mode under each of 8 hives. Five of the phones were additionally encased in a reed-clay "shield" in an effort to simulate a dose response. The authors report ability of bees to return to the nest after capture and relocation a short distance away (as assessed by factoring together both the number of bees returning and the time it took each to return) was significantly affected by the mobile phone.

the parameter used for measurement, tnR (time * number of bees returning) gets smaller if bees return more slowly or if higher nubmers of bees return, and larger if bees return faster or fewer bees return. Why the authors did not analyze these endpoints separately is not clear.
